The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is today (26 January) encouraging people struggling with the cost of energy bills this winter to contact their council about the financial help available from DWP’s Household Support Fund.

The fund can be used to make homes more energy efficient, as well as help households with bills. Councils have used the fund to pay for boilers and radiators for residents, as well as loft insulation, new thermostats, and radiator valves. As well as heating support, the fund can help with other needs, such as kitchen essentials, free school meals and clothing to help people during the colder months.

People in need of additional support over winter are encouraged to check their eligibility for the various cost-of-living schemes through the Help for Households website.
