Swindon Borough Council are redeveloping the middle of the town. This has started with Wellington Street being closed for four months. This connects the Bus Station with the Railway Station, so if you are travelling into town to use the railway either by car or bus, please allow an extra five to ten minutes. The diversion for most Thamesdown and Stagecoach buses is via Cheltenham Street, Station Road, Corporation Street and Manchester Road. There will be a footway for pedestrians maintained through Wellington Street, during these roadworks.

Ongoing work during the course of 2019 will be the new Bus Station, which will move into Fleming Way, operating a one-way system. Other developments in 2019, hopefully in June or July, is the work to take place on Junction 15 of the M4. This is likely to take 2-3 years to complete.

The electric line between London Paddington and Bristol Parkway is now fully electrified. This means that the trains running through Swindon no longer need to change from diesel to electric, saving time at Swindon Station.

The new Crossrail Railway which will run from Reading through London will need another £1.4billion to be completed. It is unlikely to open this year.

Changes on the Berks & Hants Line. GWR will be using new electric trains on the Bedwyn to London service early this year, with the siding at Bedwyn being extended to take five coaches. This will an improved service, similar to the service from Swindon, but with much lower train fares.
