Points of interest from the meetings held in June 2018

Neighbourhood Watch

The next Neighbourhood meeting is Monday 30th July and then 24th September 2018 at 7.30pm at the Recreation Hall off Norris Close. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dates for 2018 will be on the Parish Council website and also on the noticeboards at New Road by the Spar, at Hodson, Draycott Foliat, Ridgeway View and at Badbury.

Public Consultation for Proposal Planning Application on New Road

The closing date for comments on the proposed plans has now passed with a large number of comments being submitted to Swindon Borough Council for consideration. The Parish Council voted to reject these plans and our objection statement was also submitted. We will update you when we hear the outcome of this application.

Recreation Ground Pitch improvements

The pitch has been seeded and fertilized but couldn’t have the further stage of work completed due to the ground being too dry. They will return once we had some rain to continue work.

Security in hot weather

The police and Neighbourhood watch remind us all to keep windows and doors closed when not around during this hot weather. Opportunist burglars will be looking for easy access to homes and vehicles.

Recreation Hall on Norris Close

The hall is available to hire on an hourly/morning/afternoon/evening basis. Please contact the Clerk on the details above to make an enquiry about prices or availability. We can also arrange pitch hire for Football or Softball games – Please ask us for details.

The hall has undergone a tidy up and now has new carpet and cleaned/painted walls. It makes an excellent space for a gathering/party/occasion.

Defibrillator Training

At the time of going to press we are organising training on the use of the 2 defibrillators we have installed in the Parish – At the Cameo Hairdressers on the High Street and outside the Calley Memorial Hall. We hope that this gives enough people the confidence to use these devices. They are simple to use and cannot be activated on someone who doesn’t need it. You need to call 999 and the ambulance service will provide you with a 4 digit code to unlock the metal cabinets if you need access to one of the defibrillators.

Church Fete

We had great fun doing our stall at the very hot church fete in June. Thank you to everyone who guessed the weight of the hamper, or the number of sweets in the jar, or played on the pig tombola. Apart from some melted cheddar and marshmallows it was a great day. Well done to all volunteers and I hope our winners enjoyed their prizes.

Summer Holiday rock painting session

We are currently talking to Swindon Borough Council to arrange a rock painting party during the summer holidays. This is where rocks are decorated and then hid around an area of other people to find and re-hide. A simple way to have fun that doesn’t require wi-fi access! We will add dates and details to our website and the FB Community page as we confirm arrangements.

Grants and Donations fund

The Parish Council have an annual fund that we can donate to worthy causes within the Parish. If you are a group, charity or society that believes you could benefit from this fund then please contact the Parish Clerk for further details.

Calley Memorial Hall fund

The trustees of this fund are also able to approve grants and donations to worthy causes within the Parish. (This doesn’t have to be connected to users of the Memorial Hall). Please contact the Parish Clerk in the first instance who can provide you with an application form.

Works required within the Parish

We continue to report on any issues that need attention in the Parish, either to SBC if it is their responsibility or to our contractor to deal with.

A full list of responsibilities in being compiled and will be on the Parish’s Council’s website and linked to the Parish Facebook page so people can understand who is responsible for what items with the Parish.

Home Library Service

There is a home Library service for Chisledon Parish. It is run by volunteers and covers all areas of the parish and can deliver books based on your preferences. Call 01793 465 495 for more details.
