Merry Christmas from everyone at Chiseldon Parish Council.  We hope you have a happy and relaxing festive period.

Current Projects in progress/under investigation/for consideration.  Update from November edition.

Solar light at Strouds Hill carpark approved.  Awaiting confirmation from SBC on specific locations before ordering.

Improved Recreation Ground and new building.    Tweaks made to draft plans and agreement to submit pre-planning application form for review to see if plans conform to SBC and national standards.

Road re-surfacing at New Road – Ward Cllr Jefferies will be having a meeting with SBC Highways to discuss this.

Spring bulbs planted on New Road – Planted by the Gardening club with thanks.

25 “Tommie” lamppost signs for Remembrance Day – purchased and used. Will be saved for future years.

Purchase of 8 4ft Christmas trees for the New Road site.

Change of office hours.

Our office on Butts Road is now open 11.30-2.30 Monday and Wednesday for visitors.

Boundary Commission Review

There is currently a 2023 Parliamentary Constituencies review being carried out by the Boundary Commission for England.

Details of what this might mean for you can be found on the link above. The deadline for comments is 5th December 2022.

New equipment at Castle View Road

Some climbing bars and stepping pods were recently installed in the area.  Our thanks to the Primary School who stored these whilst we made installation plans.

Planters across the parish.

Some winter plants have been purchased and you may see our Handyman around the area planting these out shortly.

Christmas Lights switch on.

We are still working towards a small event on Wednesday 7th December at 6.00pm.  Please do join us.

We hope to be able to hold our annual best Christmas jumper competition for the children present.

Armistice Day Thursday 11th November.

There was a significant turn out this year for the service on New Road at the war memorial.

Chiseldon Primary School all came along, read out some of their Remembrance work and laid a wreath, along with the Parish Council.

The church service on Sunday at Holy Cross was filled to capacity with all the local Guides and Scouts groups attending.

Civility and Respect model Councillor and Officer protocol adopted

The council voted to unanimously adopt the above national policy at their meeting on the 14th November. This document strengthens and highlights the role of Cllrs and Officers of the council and lays down expected standards of behaviour.

Forthcoming Road works and closures.

Slipper Lane, The Crescent, Norris Close, New Road, Draycot Road, Hodson Road, Badbury Lane, Marlborough Road  19 Sept to 22 April 23.  All Wales and West Utilities forward planning notification of works.

Turnball. 21st Nov to 3rd Feb 23. Wales and West Utilities and SBC work.

Christmas Tree changes for 2022 and beyond.

The Parish Council and the Chiseldon Gardening and Countryside Club joined forces to purchase 8 smaller Christmas trees that can be planted on the New Road site for a Christmas display for years to come.  This is a more environmentally and cost effective solution than purchasing a cut tree each year. Our thanks to the club for assisting with funds and man power for this project.

Full Cemetery audit

The council has approved a full audit of its cemeteries by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematoria Management to include safety checks of all memorial stones. We will be booking in the ICCM as soon as their schedule allows.

Speed Watch Volunteers – a message from the team.

Vacancies for Chiseldon

We are looking for Volunteers aged over 17 to join the team to help deal with the local issues of speeding. The Community Speedwatch is co-ordinated by Wiltshire Police, if you are interested or would like more information, please contact the Chiseldon Parish Clerk (Clair Wilkinson) who will pass your details to the local co-ordinator.

Memory Café next date   

The popular memory café is next running Friday  2nd December 2022 10.30am at the Church Hall off Butts Road.  The café was created for anyone who wants some company and a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.  Also for carers who look after anyone with Dementia or Alzheimer’s to come along with their loved ones.  There is singing and dancing, all very informal and fun.   There is no charge to attend.

Recreation Hall, Recreation field and Chapel hire:

The Rec hall off Norris Close, the Rec field in the same location and the Parish Council Chapel offices are all available for hire for events, meetings or parties.

Please contact the Clerk on the details above who can advise of charges, availability and what space would suit your needs.

Defibrillators – a reminder

A reminder that the Parish has 4 defibrillators – one outside Cameo Hairdressers on High Street, one outside the Pavilion on the Recreation Field, one outside the Calley Memorial Hall on Draycott Road and one in the BT Box in Badbury.  All units are accessed by calling 999 to gain the code for the box. You cannot use these defibrillators on someone who doesn’t need it as the machine will not work. It also provides audible instructions on how to use them.

There is also a defibrillator on the outside wall of the school in Ogbourne St George.

OPEN FOR 2022/23 SUBMISSIONS – Parish Council Grants and Donations fund & Calley Memorial Hall fund

The Parish Council have an annual fund that we can donate to worthy causes within the Parish. If you are a group, charity or society that believe you could benefit from this fund then please contact the Parish Clerk for further details.

The trustees of the Calley Memorial Hall fund are also able to approve grants and donations to worthy causes within the Parish.  (This doesn’t have to be connected to users of the Memorial Hall). Please contact the Parish Clerk in the first instance who can provide you with an application form.

(It should be noted that this fund is not connected to the Parish Council)

Next Parish council meeting

The next Full Council meeting of the Parish Council will be Monday 12th December 2022. This will start at 7.30pm at the Rec Hall off Norris Close. There is a public recess at the start of proceedings, after which residents can choose to leave the session.      Meeting locations may change so please verify the location before making a journey. Our committee meetings will now meet in the Chapel Office on Butts Road.
