Wichelstowe Southern Access Road

When driving towards Junction 16 of the M4, you may have noticed that work has started on the Wichelstowe Southern Access.

Construction of a temporary embankment has begun and cables used by Highways England to monitor Swindon’s roads have now been relocated.

The Southern Access, which will create an additional route into Wichelstowe under the M4 will help to support 4,500 new homes, the new district centre and will also unlock 12.5 hectares of employment land.

Council begins electrification of its vehicle fleet

We’ve recently acquired four electric vehicles that will be used by our housing team.

The Renault Kangoo ZE 33 vans will save more than £1,700 a year per van in fuel costs, maintenance and excise duty. But, more importantly, will reduce carbon emissions by 448,000 grams per vehicle every year.

Currently we have more than 300 petrol and diesel vehicles in our fleet.

Around 30 electric vans are in the replacement programme for the next financial year, subject to final budget approval.
