Over 200 children set to take to the stage in this year’s Christmas singing festival
This Thursday, 245 children from 29 infant, junior and primary schools across Swindon will take part in a Christmas singing festival at the Wyvern Theatre.
The young stars will take to the stage as part of this year’s production, ‘A Right Pantomime’, organised by Swindon Music Service.
The show will see the children and band all dressed up as pantomime characters, including the likes of Peter Pan, the Ugly Sisters, princesses and fairy godmothers.
Swindon Music Service, run by Swindon Borough Council, organises the shows three times a year to give children the opportunity to sing in a professional theatre with a live six piece band.
The band is made up of teachers who teach music in schools and at Swindon Young Musicians, on behalf of Swindon Music Service.
Lynn Hawkins, who organises the event from original concept to producing the show with the theatre, said: “I am looking forward to working with the wonderful children who make my job so enjoyable. The show will be full of fun and laughter and I hope everyone involved thoroughly enjoys the experience.”
There are two performances on Thursday, 16 November, one at 4.45pm and the other at 7.30pm, and tickets can be bought from the Wyvern Theatre box office. The box office can be contacted on 01793 524481.
Cllr Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School Attainment, said: “Each year, Swindon Music Service do a brilliant job of producing these festivals, which are a fantastic opportunity for many children across Swindon to get experience of being on a professional stage.
