Great Western Hospital has launched a new Butterfly Volunteer service to support patients nearing the end of their lives, and their families.

The initiative, delivered in partnership with the End of Life and Palliative Care Team, Voluntary Services, and the Anne Robson Trust, offers gentle companionship and emotional support to patients in their final days. Volunteers also provide comfort to families and visitors, including signposting to bereavement services.

Support might include reading aloud, playing music, holding a hand, or simply sitting in quiet companionship.

Local people have already signed up to help, and those interested in volunteering can email gwh.butterflyvolunteers@nhs.net.
