LEGO® Heaven In Store At This Weekend’s Great Western Brick Show (Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October 2016) This weekend, STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway will be turned into LEGO® heaven as the popular Great Western Brick Show gets underway. Every year, LEGO® fans from the Brickish Association bring their stunning creations to the Swindon Borough Council-owned museum, inspiring visitors from all over the UK.
Most of the newly-created giant models and displays are being kept under wraps for the show, though the organisers are giving away a few hints about what’s in store.
Martin Long, President of the Brickish Association and co-organiser of the show, said:
“As always, the show is full of surprises so we can’t give away too much about the models we have on display this year.
“However, we are able to release the fabulous news that we have Carl Greatrix with his brand new model of the Caterham Seven 620R attending on both days. The model he built will appear alongside a real Caterham car inside the museum.

“LEGO® has recognised Carl’s ingenuity by turning his Caterham ideas into an actual LEGO® set and this will be available to buy at the show.”
Martin added: “Bricks to the Past history group are back with a brand new vision of the Vikings, as they depict a tremendous Anglo-Saxon landscape. Flying Scotsman fans will be in for a treat, as will LEGO® fans with a penchant for Star Wars, Red Dwarf and Robot Wars. “Our aim is to inspire children and adult LEGO® fans to really stretch their imaginations and to get creating themselves. With this in mind, the weekend is packed with amazing displays and special activities, to get everyone involved and to get visitors building.
“There will also be two ‘chat panel shows’ with key builders from the Show as well as two product designers from the LEGO® company, talking about the sets they have created. These will run between 11am and 3pm on both days and full details will be in the Show Guide. “Our visitors are always amazed at what can be achieved with LEGO®. This show is a celebration of these wonderful bricks and of course, the great world of imagination.” Special activities include children’s LEGO® play tables inside the museum and LEGO® fans of all ages are invited to take part in building a giant LEGO® mosaic over the weekend.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy, Regeneration and Skills said: “This popular event is full of show-stopping models and displays. It’s a fantastic day out for all the family and STEAM Season ticket holders get a 10% discount on entry to the show.” New LEGO® sets, including the Caterham Seven 620R car, minifigures and lots of LEGO® merchandise will be for sale inside the Marketplace, located in STEAM’s Hawksworth Hall. The Marketplace includes many independent LEGO® traders. Visitors will also get the chance to win sought-after LEGO® prizes in a special Brick Show competition that runs over the weekend.
Energy levels can be topped up at both the Brick Café and STEAM’s Platform One Café with freshly made hot and cold refreshments.
Doors open between 10am and 5pm on both days and tickets are available on the day.
Ticket prices are: £10 for children (3-15 yrs); £10 for seniors and £12 for adults. Family tickets cost £30 (1 adult, 2 children); £32 (2 adults, 1 child); £40 (2 adults, 2 children) and £45 (2 adults, 3 children). Under threes go free.
STEAM Season Ticket holders receive a 10% discount on tickets purchased directly from the museum.
