Parents have just over a week to get their applications in for a primary school place in this September’s intake.

The deadline is midnight on 15 January 2019 and the Council is reminding people to get their applications in as quickly as possible.

The chance that a child will end up at their first choice primary school is very high indeed. More than 90 per cent of pupils in Swindon are continuing to be matched with their first choice by Swindon Borough Council.

For last September’s intake, the Council’s School Admissions team received 2,854 on-time applications for primary school places, with 93 per cent matched with their first preference.

Parents can request a place in up to three schools and last year 98.3 per cent were offered one of their three preferences.

The Admissions team is confident of similarly high success rates again this year, but they have stressed that it is dependent upon applications being submitted before 15 January.

Councillor Mary Martin, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and School Attainment, said: “It’s hugely important that parents submit their applications for a primary school place before next week’s deadline.

“Our School Admissions team works extremely hard, and with great success, to ensure that children are accepted into one of the parents’ three preferred choice schools, and I urge people to get their applications in if they haven’t done so already.”
