Swindon Borough Council is currently responsible for 329 highway structures, e.g. road bridges, footbridges, culverts and subways, which have a gross replacement value of just over £100 million. These structures are inspected on a 2-3 year cycle and their condition is scored out of 100 using a nationally recognised system for bridge inspections. The average condition score for our bridge stock is 85 and is rated as being in good condition. The inspections form the basis of our annual programme of targeted maintenance with works such as concrete repairs, replacement of durability coatings and masonry repairs typically being undertaken.
